Comparing Offshore Ferry Lidar Measurements in the Southern Baltic Sea with ASCAT, FINO2 and WRF

چکیده

This article highlights the inter-comparisons of wind measurement techniques available in deep water areas working towards combining them to obtain optimal estimates power potential. More specifically, this presents comparisons Ferry Lidar Experiment data with those Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT), FINO2 meteorological mast, and New European Wind Atlas (NEWA) simulations performed using Weather Research, Forecasting (WRF) mesoscale model. To be comparable ASCAT surface winds, which are referenced at 10 m, ferry lidar profile measurements were extrapolated down m atmospheric stability information derived from bulk Richardson number formulation. had lowest associated error compared that near-neutral stratifications, whereas FINO2, despite a distance range 30 km moving target, highest correlation RMSE all conditions. Due high frequency low-level jets caused by proximity land directions as well typically stable conditions, underpredicted speeds. WRF consistently underperformed other methods, even ability directly compare results sources heights.

Offshore Wind Resources Assessment from Multiple Satellite Data and WRF Modeling over South China Sea

Using accurate inputs of wind speed is crucial in wind resource assessment, as predicted power is proportional to the wind speed cubed. This study outlines a methodology for combining multiple ocean satellite winds and winds from WRF simulations in order to acquire the accurate reconstructed offshore winds which can be used for offshore wind resource assessment. First, wind speeds retrieved fro...

Quarter-Century Offshore Winds from SSM/I and WRF in the North Sea and South China Sea

We study the wind climate and its long-term variability in the North Sea and South China Sea, areas relevant for offshore wind energy development, using satellite-based wind data, because very few reliable long-term in-situ sea surface wind observations are available. The Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I) ocean winds extrapolated from 10 m to 100 m using the Charnock relationship and the ...

Prevalence of anisakin nematodes in fish from Southern Baltic Sea.

Nematodes from the superfamily Ascaridoidea (families Anisakidae and Raphidascarididae) are worldwide distributed parasites. Their live cycles include many species of water invertebrates and teleostean fish as intermediate hosts, and fish, sea mammals or fish-eating birds being definitive hosts. Humans can be infected with some of these parasites after consumption of raw or wrongly processed fi...

Seasonal significance of N2 fixation in coastal and offshore waters of the northwestern Baltic Sea

Annual rates of N2 fixation were measured over 3 yr (1998–2000) at an open water station (BY31) and 2 coastal stations (H4 and X1) in the Baltic Sea. This is the first report on depthintegrated rates of N2 fixation from more than one complete growth season in the Baltic Sea. Annual estimates of N2 fixation ranged from 56 000 to 125 000 t N in the Baltic Proper, and 18 000 to 162 000 t N at the ...
